He was an avid outdoors man who loved to go caving, camping, hiking and biking. He was an accomplished woodworker and handy man, making items for his grandchildren and teaching his sons the art of home repair and maintenance. He taught for 35 years, the last 27 at the Career Center as an Occupational Work Experience Teacher/Coordinator, where he affected the lives of hundreds of students and worked with their employers. He was recognized as the O.W.E.. Coordinator of the year in the State of Ohio in 2000. He was a Councilman for the City of Marietta for 19 years serving as Council for the Fourth Ward and as Council at Large, the majority of those years as finance chair. An active and enthusiastic Democrat, he was a member of the Washington County Democratic Party Central and Executive Committees for many years, holding various offices including Chair of the Central Committee.
He was a loving, engaged, and active family man. He is survived by his wife Denyse Morris Fordham; by his son Richard Fordham and fianc Amanda West of Ft. Collins, Colorado; his step daughter Tamara and Scott Mitchell of Perrysburg, Ohio, and their children Emily and Bryan, and stepson William and Kate Cusack of Darien, Connecticut, and their children, Cora and Grace. Also surviving are his brother William (Cindy) Fordham of River Edge, New Jersey, and brother Robert (Judy) Fordham of Utica, Ohio, and his aunt Virginia Fordham of Marietta.
Visiting hours will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Front Street in Marietta, Ohio on Wednesday, August 15th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday, August 16th, from 10:00 am to noon with services immediately following at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Marietta Community Foundation, in Art's memory.
