Arthur McCabe, Jr., 86, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living. He was born on October 24, 1930, in Marietta, to Arthur Sr. and Geneva Reynolds McCabe.
Art was in the Army National Guard for 35 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He worked for Chevron for over 30 years, retiring as Plant Superintendent. He was an Auxiliary Police Officer for the Marietta Police Department and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Association, Elks and Moose Lodges. He was also a member of the Marietta Boat Club, where he was a past Commodore, the only two-term Commodore. Boating was his passion. He worked and played on the river all his life, and as a young man worked on the locks and barges for the Corps of Engineers.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Steele McCabe, whom he married on July 12, 2008; five children, Dan McCabe (Phyllis) of Amarillo, Texas, Greg McCabe (Sharon) of Marietta, Michele Lauer of Arcade, NY, Geoff McCabe (Sherry) of Marietta, and Julie Snyder (Randy) of Marietta; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and many beloved extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Sue Gruber McCabe and Norma Snodgrass McCabe; and three brothers, Al, Clarence and Glen McCabe, Sr.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Dr. Myron Guiler officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park, with full military honors. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
