Delbert L. McFarland, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the age of 82.
Born on September 25, 1944, in Marietta, Ohio, Delbert was a cherished resident of his hometown for 78 years before spending his final years near family in Dublin, Ohio. Known to many as “Del”—or his personal favorite title, “Papa”—he truly never met a stranger. His quick wit, gentle soul, and knack for bringing a smile to anyone's face made him unforgettable to all who knew him.
Delbert graduated from Marietta High School in 1963 and dedicated many years of hard work to the Pleasants Power Station on Willow Island until his retirement in 2006. A true craftsman at heart, he had a lifelong passion for classic cars and took immense pride in rebuilding his cherished 1967 Corvette, which he frequently showcased at car shows in Marietta. He was also an active member of the Fort Harmar Rifle Club, where he enjoyed target shooting with friends and volunteering his time. Beyond his hobbies, Delbert’s greatest legacy lies in the quiet lessons he taught through his hard work, humility, and unconditional love.
Delbert is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Barbara (married June 14, 1969); his children, Lia Williams (Aaron) and Jay McFarland (Beth); and his three cherished granddaughters, Kaitlin Williams, Addison Williams, and Claire McFarland; and three nieces and three nephews, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy (Armstrong) and Glenn McFarland, and his brother, Dr. Dee McFarland.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Delbert's life during visitation on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Cure Alzheimer's Research Fund at www.curealz.org in honor of Delbert’s courageous fight over the past several years.
