Donald Lawrence Carpenter

Donald "Don" Lawrence Carpenter, a beloved resident of Whipple, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the age of 90. He was born on August 5, 1936, in Marietta, Ohio to Lawrence and Elizabeth Smith Carpenter.

Don was a proud truck driver and owner/operator, known for his hard work and commitment. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #142. Don's passion for farming, golf, square dancing, and side-by-side riding brought joy to his life, and he was especially fond of mowing and spending time with his family.

Don was an active member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and he cherished the moments spent with them. Don's legacy of love, hard work, and dedication will forever be cherished by those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all.

Don is survived by his loving children: his son, Donald Kevin Carpenter (Sarah); his daughters, Becky Kirkbride and Brenda Handschumacher (Roger). He was a proud grandfather to Matthew and Christopher Carpenter, Donald Kirkbride (Whitney), Steven Carpenter II (Jen), Stephanie Carpenter (Chuck Cline), Elisha Barnes (Cliff), Ben Handschumacher (Meghan Duncan), and Ashley Bartlett (Andy). Don also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren, as well as his special niece and nephew, Debbie Tufts and David Burns. His loyal dog, Ollie, was a constant companion.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Kathleen "Katie" Carpenter; his son, Steven Carpenter; his son-in-law, Michael Kirkbride; his sisters, Anna Mae Hooper and Mary Alice Harper; his great-grandson, Austyn Carpenter; and his great-great-granddaughter, Wrenley Carpenter.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOMES with Pastor Jeffrey Baumer officiating with a graveside service to follow in Salem Township Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the visitation on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and for an hour before the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Salem Township Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 132, Lower Salem, Ohio 45745. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Buckeye Hospice for their compassion and care, especially Tonia, Jen, Josie and Rylee. A special thank you is also extended to his care givers, Amber, Kendra, and Julie as well as his neighbors the Allen family, the Gill family, the Fouss family, and the Handschumacher family.
