Hilda Ann (Brooker) Gebhart, 94, of Marietta, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025 surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on August 27, 1931, to Clement and Lucy Brooker and graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1949. On November 16, 1954, she married Harold Jacob Gebhart, with whom she shared many wonderful years. Together they raised a family that was always at the very center of her heart.
A devoted homemaker, Hilda found her greatest joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was active in the Catholic Women’s Club and steadfast in her faith. Her life was a true reflection of her love for Jesus, which shone through in her kindness, gentleness, and the way she cared for others.
Hilda will be fondly remembered for her warm and welcoming spirit, her incredible cooking, and her iconic family dishes that brought loved ones together around the table. She also loved tending to her garden and filling her yard with beautiful flowers, a reflection of the care and beauty she poured into every part of her life.
She is survived by her children, Daniel (Kimberly) Gebhart, Kenneth (Jacqueline) Gebhart, Linda Gebhart, and James (Beth) Gebhart; her grandchildren, Tanner (Iris) Gebhart, Arielle (Frank) Baker, Lydia (Shane) Roberts, and Madison (Adam) Heiss; and her great-grandchildren, Colby and Kendall Baker. She is also survived by her siblings Louis (Ruth) Brooker, Rita Offenberger, Bertha (Delbert) Lasure, Robert Brooker, Howard Brooker, David (Doris) Brooker, and Frederick (Ethel) Brooker; sister-in law Betty Ford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; her daughter, Barbara Wolfe; brothers Edward, Anthony, Raymond, and Bernard; brothers-in-law Clarence Smith, Bill Gebhart, and Harold Offenberger; and sisters-in-law Mary Brooker, Donna Brooker, Susan Brooker, Kate Clark, and Helen Britton.
Hilda’s family will carry her love, faith, and example in their hearts forever. Her legacy of devotion to family, faith, and kindness will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Churchtown, Ohio on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 10:00 am with Fr. David Gaydosik officiating with burial to follow in the cemetery. Visitation will take place at the MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME in Marietta, Ohio from 2-4 pm and from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 with a Rosary to be held at 7:00 pm.
