Jack Dean Rose, 94, of Marietta, died Friday, December 30, 2016, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born August 24, 1922 in Coal Run to Ivan and Myrtie Immel Rose. Jack's schooling was at Coal Run Elementary, Beverly Junior and Senior High Schools and Mountain State Business College. His work history included 34 years at Remington Rand, Sperry Rand, Sperry Univac, Unisys, Kardex and also 26 years working for Putnam Community Water Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from October 1942 to November, 1945, during the European Campaign and earning three Bronze Stars, the World War II Victory Medal, Marksmen's Medal and CAME Theater Medal. He was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption. Jack was a member of the American Legion, Post 64, Sons of Union Veterans and the VFW, all in Marietta. He loved hunting, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and playing cards. He also took great joy in watching his grandchildren play sports, from traveling youth soccer, basketball and golf, following them from high school up through college. Jack is survived by his wife, Kathryn Henke Rose, they were married on February 19, 1944 in St. Mary's Catholic Church; also by two sons, Richard (Maria) Rose of Houston, TX and Daniel (Penny) Rose of Marietta; seven grandchildren, Megan Courtney, Stephen (Kelly) and David Rose, Missy (Pete) Koops, Tina (Wesley) Good and Corey Brown; eleven great grandchildren and sister in law, Betty Rose of Marietta. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Regina Rose, Allene Sue Reeves and Clifton G. Rose. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses for their kind care at Marietta Memorial Hospital. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, with the Rev. Msgr. John Michael Campbell as celebrant. Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at New St. Marys Cemetery, with full military honors.
