James Bryant Jr.

James Bryant Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the age of 78, at his residence in Reno, Ohio. Born on January 20, 1948, in Washington, D.C., James was a cherished resident of Marietta, Ohio, where he spent his later years surrounded by family and friends.

James dedicated much of his life to his work as a laborer with the Metro subway system in Washington, D.C., which at the time the city led the nation in homicide and genocide. He then decided to move his family to Marietta, Ohio to live. He was known for his strong work ethic and warm personality. Outside of work, James had a passion for comedy, often bringing laughter to those around him with his quick wit and humor. He was also an avid fisherman, enjoyed playing horseshoes, a lover of soul music, and an herbal connoisseur, enjoying the simple pleasures of life. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

James is survived by his loving son, James Bryant III, and his daughter-in-law, Bobbi, of Columbus, OH. He was a proud grandfather to James Bryant VI and Kiah Bryant. James also leaves behind his brother, Lois Bryant, affectionately known as "Big Lou," his sister, Margaret Bryant, and his sister-in-law, Kathy Tewkesburry. He will be dearly missed by his close friends, Steve Baker, Brice "Bizzy Vickers" and the Vickers family, and Greg Dearth and his wife, Janey.

James was preceded in death by his father, James Bryant Sr. and his mother Margaret Bryant, his brother, John Bryant, his sister, Cheryl Bryant, and multiple stepbrothers and sisters.

Abiding his wishes, James will be cremated, with no services planned at this time.
