James Philip Habel, 73, of Marietta, Ohio, died Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at his home in Marietta. He was born on October 7, 1944 in Urbana, Ohio, to John James and Lucille Ryder Habel.
Phil was a graduate of DeVry University with a degree in electrical engineering. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. Phil worked for AEP for 20 years, retiring in 1997. He was very involved in Habitat for Humanity, helping build many houses, and was President of the board years ago. He enjoyed fishing, community service, coaching his daughters in tee ball, and was a member of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Pettit Habel, whom he married on June 1, 1976; two daughters, Amanda Habel (Maritza Molina) of San Diego, California and Megan Habel (Casey Hill) of Mesa, Washington; one granddaughter, Maren Hill; brother, John Habel (Doris) of Dayton, Ohio; sister, Kim Dilts (Mike) of Dayton; and many nieces and nephews.
Family will greet friends on Friday, December 29, 2017, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Military services will be held at the funeral home at the completion of visitation at 3 p.m.
