John Patrick Hannan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on October 2, 1947, in Parkersburg, WV, John was a cherished resident of Vincent, OH, where he spent much of his life surrounded by family and friends.

John was a proud graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 1965. He dedicated his professional life to working as a Lab Tech at Union Carbide and later retired from Forma Scientific. His commitment to service extended beyond his career, as he served in the National Guard in Marietta, Ohio.

A man of many passions, John was an active member of the community. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion Post #64, the Masons Bartlett Lodge No. 293, the Washington County Historical Society, and was a board member of the Marietta Community Action. His commitment to public service was evident in his role as a Barlow Township Trustee for many years. John had a deep love for horses and farming, and he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His sense of humor and his legacy of love, service, and dedication to family and community will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his life.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Susan Maze Hannan; his son, Patrick Hannan (Jess); his stepchildren, Eric Griffiths (Tanya), and Melissa Erb (Mark). He was a proud grandfather to Jessica Lamb, Kaitlin Massie (Cory), Courtney DeLancy (Josh), Dawson Hannan (Lain), Wyatt Hannan, Ellie Hannan, Sawyer Hannan, and Maddie Hannan. John is also survived by his sister, Jane Myers (Jeff).

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ralph and Ethel Smith Hannan.

Funeral services will be held at the Layman United Methodist Church located at 232 Brownrigg Road, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Lou Whitney officiating, followed by a graveside service at Tunnel Cemetery with full military honors. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at the BARLOW CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME In Barlow, Ohio, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Masonic Service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Layman United Methodist Church at 232 Brownrigg Rd, Cutler, OH 45724 or to the Washington County Historical Society at P.O. Box 5, Marietta, OH 45750.
