Joseph Fairhurst Hutchinson
Joseph Fairhurst Hutchinson, 87, of Williamstown, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born December 9, 1922 in Columbus to Dr. Joseph B. and Maude L. Fairhurst Hutchinson. He was a 1941 graduate of Marietta High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1946, in the Corps of Engineers. Joseph had retired from Fenton Art Glass and prior to that, had worked for Marietta Metal Products and Williamson Chevrolet. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Williamstown, the Masonic and Eastern Star lodges in Williamstown, Pioneer Antique Auto Club, and the Williamstown Dulcimer Band. He had been a volunteer for the Ohio River Museum, giving tours on the W.P. Snyder and had also volunteered at the Williamstown Food Pantry. Joseph was a direct descendant of Rufus Putnam and Allen Putnam. He is survived by two daughters, Janice Uhl (Robert) of Easley, SC and Mary Jo Hutchinson (Glen Wolfe) of Marietta; two grandchildren, Ada Meeks (Sam) of Williamstown and Warren Uhl (Becky) of Easley, SC; great granddaughter, Amanda Crockett (Lazarus II) of Macksburg and two great great grandchildren, Lazarus III and Maddison Crockett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Smith Hutchinson on September 24, 1994, they had been married on October 17, 1942. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown, with Dr. Steve Gedon and the Rev. David Vensel officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park, with full military honors and Masonic services. Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and also for one hour prior to services Tuesday, at the church.
