Judith Ann Hill

Judith Tate Hill died on August 17, 2026, in Columbus. A long-time resident of Marietta, she was born on May 29, 1929, in Cincinnati, and lived there until her high school years, when her family moved to Worthington.

She graduated from Worthington High School in 1947 and from Ohio State University in 1950. On December 27, 1950, she married Robert Sherman Hill, also a graduate of Worthington High School and then a student at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland. The couple lived in, among other places, Annapolis and Chicago while Bob finished his undergraduate degree at St. John’s and his graduate degrees at the University of Chicago. In 1959, they settled in Marietta when Bob joined the faculty of Marietta College. Judy raised her three children and was active in the First Presbyterian Church. She taught preschool at the Pioneer Nursery School and later at the Washington County Children’s Center. Judy enjoyed taking ballet classes, gardening, and taking long walks. She and Bob were members of the Marietta Reading Club, active in the Washington County Historical Society as docents of the Fearing House, and early supporters of the River Cities Symphony. After she and Bob retired, they remained in Marietta until 2014 when they moved to Westerville to be closer to their daughter Sarah, who served as caregiver.

Bob Hill passed away in 2017. Judy was also pre-deceased by her older sister Mary Beatrice Casner and younger brother Thomas Tate.

In addition to daughter Sarah (Joel Blotner) of Westerville, Judy is survived by daughter Amy Shevitz of Chicago and son David (Beverly Upton) of Antioch, California; grandchildren Hannah Kilburg (Ben) of Towson, Maryland, Reyan Ali (Elia) of Columbus, and Ben Blotner (Ingrid) of Columbus; great-grandchildren Walter Kilburg of Towson, and Catalina and Rafael Ali of Columbus; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a future date.

Abiding with her wishes, cremation arrangements have been made with Cawley & Peoples Funeral Homes, and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Mound Cemetery.
