Larry Lane "Buzzy" Simmons, 71, of Greene St., Marietta, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at his home. He was born January 31, 1940 in Pennsboro, WV to Luther O. and Opal Prunty Simmons. He was a 1958 graduate of Marietta High School, and served in the United States Army. Larry retired from Painters Local 93, following 30 years of employment. He was a member of Elks Lodge 477, Marietta Legion, Post 64 and Moose Lodge 1821. He loved to golf, garden and enjoyed sprint car racing. Larry is survived by his wife and companion of 42 years, Joan Calendine Simmons, three daughters, Kim Hart of Arlington, WA, Kelly Kidd of Valley City, ND and Holly Damron (Roger) of Marietta, ten grandchildren, Ashley and Laine Hart, Chase Simmons, Brandon Thomas, Matthew, Malkom and Kacey Kidd, Allison, Emily and Cole Damron, a great grandson, Kaleb Kidd, and two brothers, Kenneth Simmons (Sue) of Riegelsville, PA and Jack Simmons of Marietta and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Karrie Simmons and a sister, Betty McIntyre. Abiding with Buzzy's wishes, a cremation will take place, with a memorial service to be held at a later date. His request was that all of his friends and family have a get together to remember the happy times. Burial of his ashes will be at East Lawn Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the Strecker Cancer Center, or to the Elks Lodge or the Legion for their golf leagues.
