Leo C. Huck, 90, of Watertown, Ohio, passed peacefully on May 26, 2025, at Waterview Pointe in Marietta, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on April 6, 1935, to Leo D. and Lucy P. (Brooker) Huck, Leo was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a proud graduate of Waterford High School, Class of 1954. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army, where he served honorably until 1957.

On November 11, 1959, he married the love of his life, Joan (Zwick) Huck—a union built on deep faith, family, and enduring commitment. Together, they raised a close-knit family, rooted in kindness, hard work, and a love of community.

Leo’s work ethic was unmatched. He began his career at Apex Feed & Supply in Marietta and went on to work many years as a welder at Interlake Steel in Beverly. In the later years of his career, Leo found great joy and pride working as the custodian at St. John’s Grade School, where he was known for keeping the floors “shining like the top of the Chrysler Building.” Even after his retirement in 2002, Leo stayed busy, lending a hand at Huck’s Pallet & Recycling.

A man of many talents, Leo was most at home outdoors. From early spring to late fall, he could be found tending to his gardens and fruit orchard. Leo was sure to grow more than enough to share with family, friends, and neighbors. His green thumb was only matched by his love of a good game of euchre while sipping on a glass of homemade wine from his orchard.

Leo also devoted his time to the youth of his community, coaching peewee and junior high basketball at St. John’s Grade School for many years. He was an active member of the Holy Name Society and the Churchtown Senior Citizens Club, always lending a helping hand.

Leo will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan; his children, Marsha (Regis) Tornes, Darrell (Jackie) Huck, Myron (Leigh Ann) Huck, and Duane (Valerie) Huck; his nine grandchildren – Justin (Samantha) Tornes, Jannessa (Brian) Stark, Jacob Huck, Jarrod Huck, CJ Huck, Logan Huck, Camden Huck, Laina Huck, and Lily Huck; and several great-grandchildren, step grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by five brothers – Herman, Regis, Lawrence, David (Barb), and Dan (Joann); three sisters – Clarita Denius, Ethel Lee, and Julia (Kenny) Strahler; brother-in-law Jim Zwick; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was welcomed into eternal rest by his parents; brothers Ralph and Vincent; sister Mary Zwick; brothers-in-law Kent Lee and David Denius; and sisters-in-law Alice Huck, Allene Huck, Leora Huck, Mary Huck, and Paula Huck.

Leo’s legacy lives on in the seeds he planted—both in the garden and in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His generous spirit, and steady presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all.

A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be at 10:00am Friday, May 30, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Churchtown with The Rev. David Gaydosik and The Rev. David Huffman, as Celebrants. Burial will follow in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. The family will greet friends the day prior at the MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY AND PEOPLES FUNERAL HOMES from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary service to be held at 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. John School Foundation, 17784 St. Rt. 676, Marietta, OH 45750.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Appletree, Waterview Pointe, and Amedisys Hospice Staff for their loving care.
