Marie Catherine Scyphers, a beloved resident of Marietta, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the age of 85. She was born on August 27, 1940, in Marietta, Ohio, to the late John and Marie Lang Schilling.
Marie was a proud graduate of Fort Frye High School, Class of 1958, and furthered her education at Strayer College. Her career was marked by over 30 years of distinguished service to the Federal Government, initially with the FBI and later with the CIA, where she served in the secretarial field. After returning to her hometown of Marietta, Marie worked at Walmart for nine years.
A member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and the Catholic Women's Club. She had a passion for collecting angels and writing poetry, and she cherished the companionship of her beloved cats, Tula and Tyka. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of service, faith, and love will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
Marie is survived by her siblings, Lou Anne Camden, Edward Schilling, Judith Balas, and Joyce Chaney, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Rose Mary Yost and Elizabeth Hopper; and her brothers, David Schilling, Howard Schilling, and Charles Schilling.
A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Lowell, Ohio, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 10:00 am with the Rev. David Gaydosik officiating. A graveside service will follow in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the LOWELL CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, followed by a Vigil Service at 6:00 pm.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Ely Chapman Foundation, 403 Scammel St., Marietta, OH 45750, or St. John's Central School, 17654 Ohio 676, Marietta, OH 45750, in Marie's memory.
