Mary Lavada Newton, a beloved resident of Beverly, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17th, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on November 16th, 1937, in Coal Run, Ohio, Mary was a cherished member of her community and a devoted family member.
Mary was the daughter of the late Clarence Otis Farnsworth and Rettie Irene Ball Farnsworth. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Dale Newton, and her brother, Merle Farnsworth. She is survived by her brother, Wayne Farnsworth, and his wife, Sharon, as well as her sister-in-law, Jennie Farnsworth. Mary also leaves behind nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her kindness and warmth.
A proud graduate of Beverly High School in the class of 1955, Mary furthered her education at the Cincinnati Bible Seminary. Her career spanned 42 years in the Circulation Department of the Marietta Times, where she was known for her dedication and hard work.
Mary was a member of the Lower Muskingum Historical Society. Her lifelong passion for music was evident as she played the piano for the Coal Run Church of Christ throughout her life, bringing joy and comfort to many through her music.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home in Lowell, Ohio, on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at the same location on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026, at 1:00 pm, officiated by Zack Waite. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
