USAF Retired Lt. Col. Miles Duane McGregor, 87, died Monday, March 16, 2020, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born the 11th of 13 children of Andrew Noble and Lulu Emma Lane McGregor, in Barlow, Ohio, on October 24, 1932.
Following graduation from Barlow Local High School in 1950, he started what turned out to be a very extensive military career with the United States Air Force. Miles served from 1951 to 1972, traveling the world and receiving many rankings and awards, including, his Navigator Wings, Distinguished Flying Medal, 10 Air Medals, one for each combat mission, two Air Force Commendation Medals, two Outstanding Unit Awards and Vietnam Service Medal.
Following his military career, he worked 20 years in various positions for Marietta Concrete and its successor, Marietta Structures. Miles served 11 years on the Warren Local School Board of Education. He was a life member of American Legion Post 64, VFW Post 5108 and the Reserve Officers Association. Miles was also a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1823, Air Force Association, Military Officers of America Association and Reserve Officer Association.
He is survived by his two sons, Mitchel (Kathy Wriston) and Jeffery (Chris), both of Vincent; grandchildren, Michelle Moulton (Ethan) of Park City, Ohio and Malcolm McGregor of Vincent; two great grandchildren, Miles McGregor and Layla Buchannon; two sisters in law, Mildred Elliott and Mary McGregor; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice E. McVicar McGregor, whom he married on October 31, 1953; granddaughter, Jennifer McGregor; seven sisters, June Porter, Helen Lynch, Doris Reed, Mary Nichols Jamison, Virginia Combs, Margaret Parks Gregory and Emma Lou Welch; and five brothers, James, Ralph, Loren, Kenneth and Keith.
Abiding with State of Ohio recommendations for social distancing during the COVID-19 Pandemic, private family services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Rev. Debra Proctor officiating. Burial will follow in Barlow Central Cemetery, with Full Military Honors being observed. There will be no visitation or greeting of friends and extended family.
