Opal Forshey Fouss, 78, of Whipple, Ohio, died Monday, December 4, 2017 in Marietta, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 10, 1939 in Lower Salem, Ohio to Ralph P. and Caroline A. Theiss Forshey.
Opal was a 1956 graduate of Salem Liberty High School. She and her husband were instrumental in the forming of Salem Volunteer Fire Department, and she was the first president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the fire department. She and her husband enjoyed the friendship of the Good Sam Camping Club. They also enjoyed evening card games with friends.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Dean Fouss, whom she married on February 15, 1958; three children, Jeffrey Fouss (Melanie) of Lowell, Ohio, JoAnna Griffin (David) of Whipple, Scott Fouss (Missy) of Whipple; six grandchildren, Beau Griffin (Shana), Mitch Fouss (Kim), Abbey Schwendeman (Adam), Katie Ferguson(Tyler), Marcie Huntsman (Ben), and Emily Horton (Eric); seven great grandchildren and one on the way; brother, Paul Forshey (Betty) of Marietta; many nieces and nephews; special friends Patty and Janie; and "Peanut", her dog.
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Jody Griffin; and great grandson, Brock Griffin.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor Chad Mugrage officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Township Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
