Otis Dean Ball
Otis Dean Ball, 82, of Vincent, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at his home. He was born on October 21, 1926 in Lowell to Guy and Lottie Walters Ball. He was a graduate of Lowell High School. Dean served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He retired in 1986 from Union Carbide/Elkem, following 29 years of service. He was also a proud farmer in the Layman area. He was a member of the Layman United Methodist Church, Bartlett Masonic Lodge #293, Parkersburg American Legion, Post #15, Barlow Coonhunters, OCAW Local #639, having served as a union steward and trustee and recently had been the caretaker of the union hall, and he had served as a Fairfield Township trustee. In celebration of his life, he leaves behind his wife, Arlene Lucille Hanlon Ball, they were married on June 6, 1948; three daughters, Brenda Graham of Sebring, FL, Sharon Dilliner (Ray) of Belpre and Deana Tompkins (Steve) of Vincent; a son, Ron Ball (Kathy) of Vincent; also Belinda Grayson (Jack) of Cutler, who he thought of as a daughter; six grandchildren, Kerri Shartle, Belinda Briggs, Bonnie Ward, Sarah Davis, Laura Wilson and Travis Ball; nine great grandchildren and two brothers, Donald Ball (Evah) of Waterford and Emmett Ball (Patty) of Lowell. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor Lou Whitney officiating. There will be military honors at the funeral home immediately following his services. Abiding with Dean's wishes, his body will be cremated, and a private committal service will be held at Barlow Central Cemetery at a later date.
