Richard George "Rick" Thomas, 58, Marietta, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at OSU Medical Center, in Columbus, OH. Born May 15, 1953, he was the son of the late Michael John "M. J." and Helen Zide Thomas. Rick was a graduate of Marietta High School in 1971, and received his Bachelors degree in accounting from Marietta College in 1975. He had been owner and operator of Club Continental, where he was known as the "The Disco King". He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Rick enjoyed playing golf and always had an interest in history. Survivors include his sister, Tina Thomas (Ron Tomasch), and their children, Yogi and Natalie Tomasch, all of Marietta. He is also survived by 10 cousins, Patty Perry, Jim Matheny (Claudia), Gary Matheny, Joe Matheny (Nancy), Tom Matheny, Rachel Matheny, Teri Ann Zide (Gary Pfeffer), Shelly Medley (Rick), Frank Zide (Jennifer) and Missy Deskins (Elbert), and his ex-wife, Carolyn Canfield, of Marietta, special friends, Lyle and Teresa, and many extended relatives and friends. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Michael Simon Thomas, a cousin, Billy Matheny, aunts and uncles, George and Virginia Zide, Julia and Jim Matheny and Joseph "Fuzzy" Thomas. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be held 10:00 am Friday, June 17, 2011, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Christopher Foxhoven officiating. Burial will be in New St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, where there will be a Vigil service at 3:00 pm. It is suggested that memorial contributions may be directed to the Restoration Fund at St. Mary Catholic Church, 506 4th Street, Marietta, or to the D.A.R.E.
