Robert Paul Potter, 86, formerly of Riverview Drive, Marietta, died at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Marietta Center. He was born on May 25, 1922 in Marietta, to George and Agnus Cassidy Potter. He attended St. Mary Catholic High School. Bob was a WWII veteran, serving in the 10th Armored Division of the United States Army. He retired in 1982 from Eramet Power Plant, formerly Union Carbide, as a Pit Operator. Bob was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the American Legion, Post #64 and enjoyed camping. He is survived by five sons, Robert E. Potter (Fran) of Marietta, Charles G. Potter (Jane ) of Marietta, Mark A. Potter (Evelyn) of Little Hocking, Donald J. Potter (Amy) of Marietta, and James E. Potter (Lou Ann) of Marietta; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gertrude McMurry of North Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Elva Jean Miller Potter, who died on July 17, 2005. They were married on November 9, 1942. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with The Rev. John Michael Campbell celebrating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with a Vigil service being held at 3:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the American Legion, Post 64.
