Shirley Kay Lang, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence in Waterford, Ohio on Friday, May 29, 2026. She was born on February 12, 1941, in Marietta, Ohio to David and Effie Battersby Ward. Shirley lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to her family and community.

Shirley was a proud graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 1959. She was a homemaker and mother before working at the Betty Lee Shop, a local dress shop. She started her career as a teller at Dime Bank and retired from Wesbanco as a bank officer. Her professional life was marked by her commitment and friendly demeanor, which left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.

She was a devout member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with her husband Glenn and then attended the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption in Marietta. Shirley was deeply involved in her community. She was a member of the Welfare League and generously volunteered her time at the Marietta Memorial Hospital Gift Shop. Her passions included gardening, decorating her home, and spending cherished moments with her family. Shirley and her late husband, D. Glenn Lang, whom she married on October 6, 1983, enjoyed camping trips to Florida and the surrounding areas, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and community will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Shirley is survived by her loving children, Lisa Lavery (Jim), Jody Curry, and Joe Matthews II (Brenda); her step-children, Marshall (Suzette), Glenna (Joseph), Cecilia, and D.J. (Shelly); her grandchildren, James, Jeremy, and Justin Lavery, Zach and Wesley Curry, and Madison and Nathan Matthews; and her great-grandchildren, Jaden, Noah, Jamison, J.P., Nash, Eloise, and Dresden. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Cooper, and her niece, DeeAnn, along with numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, D. Glenn Lang.

In accordance with Shirley's wishes, she will be cremated, and a private burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Cawley Hospice, 2730 Washington Blvd., Belpre, Ohio 45714, in Shirley's memory.
