Stephen L. “Steve” Jupinko, 78, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio, after years of battling serious heart issues. He was born October 9, 1947, in Columbus to the late Steve and Josephine Lautar Jupinko. Steve attended St. Thomas the Apostle Grade School, Aquinas High School, and Miami of Ohio University. He joined the United States Navy in 1967 and served as a Medical Corpsman during the Vietnam War. He finished his service duty at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
He moved to Marietta, Ohio in 1986 and began his own business, The Kaddy Shack Golf Center on Route 7 near Reno. He continued his lifelong love of the game of golf, and he experienced the fruits of this with the establishment of his business. He would give lessons, sell equipment, and he built a traveling Mini Golf which was used for fundraisers throughout the area. Her served as an assistant to the pro at Marietta Country Club for several years until his health issues changed his path.
Steve was a member and former officer of the Marietta Boat Club and the Marietta Moose #1823. He was also a member of the Buckeye Moose Legion #192, Worthington Moose #1427, and Rainbow Moose Legion #35.
He is survived by his daughter Mary Beth Spainhower (Dale), a grandson Peter Georgakilas, and a granddaughter Kendall Spainhower; his sister, Mary Ann VonVille; his nephew, Andrew VonVille; his niece, Amy Cluley; and his very special great niece and nephew, Lilly Ann and Evan Cluley. He leaves behind numerous Jupinko and Lautar cousins, and his special friends at Kenbrook Village, especially David, Sonja, and Sandy, who tended to his needs in his final days.
Following Steve’s request, there will be no services. A Memorial Mass held at a later date to honor Steve’s life with full military honors to follow and a gathering to be held at the Marietta Moose #1823.
