Steven Joseph "Carp" Carpenter, 61, of Whipple, died Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Marietta Memorial Hospital Emergency Department. He was born November 3, 1955 in Marietta. Steve was a 1973 graduate of Fort Frye High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran during the Vietnam Era, serving on two Mediterranean tours. He had been employed by Eramet for 29 years. Steve was a member of the Elks Lodge, VFW Post #5108 and American Legion Post #64, all in Marietta. He enjoyed motorcycle rides and sitting on his porch visiting with family. Carp was a devoted husband, son, father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Jeanie Thompson Carpenter; father, Donald Carpenter of Whipple; mother, Ila Brown (Dan) Buchanan of Kingman, AZ; daughter, Stephanie Jo Carpenter (Dale Stille) of Whipple; son, Steven Joseph Carpenter II (Justina) of Churchtown; two grandchildren, Brenton and Jakob Carpenter; four siblings, Kevin Carpenter (Sarah) of Whipple, Becky Kirkbride (Mike) of Whipple, Brenda Handschumacher (Roger) of Kingman, AZ, and Danny Buchanan (Candace) of Kingman, several nieces and nephews and many special friends, including Mike and Hippie. He was preceded in death by his step mother, Katie Carpenter. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor Terry Schmelzenbach officiating. Burial, with full military honors will be in Salem Township Cemetery.
