Susan A. Sipe, 82, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away into the loving arms of her Savior and Lord on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, surrounded by her children and husband and the prayers of hundreds of people. Sue, as she preferred to be called, a woman of deep and profound faith was born in Greenwood, Mississippi to John Edward and Geraldine Kenny on January 2, 1944. She only spent three days in Mississippi when her mother took her home to New York and her father continued his service with the 101st Battalion during W.W.II.

She graduated from Levittown High School on Long Island New York and attended Hofstra University before going to Manhattan to work for the National Biscuit Company as a sales researcher. She moved to Delaware, Ohio where she graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1968 with a degree in Home Economics and Education.

Sue next moved to Columbus, Ohio where she taught Head Start for two years and took a job with the Lazarus Department Store in their accounting department. In February 1973 while attending a Sunday School Class on the Book of Daniel she met a third-year law student, Dennis Sipe, the love of her life. They were married on January 5, 1974, in Columbus, Ohio.

Sue often described their life as an extraordinary novel and movie. They moved to Wilmington, Ohio, then to Xenia, Ohio, then back to Columbus, Ohio and then to Marietta, Ohio on the last day of 1982.

She loved helping others and always managed to say yes when asked to volunteer. She also found time to work for the Simply Amish Furniture store for twenty-one years.

Sue had on dominating passion in life as she felt a calling to live a life that shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She was very fond of giving people a copy of Jesus Calling. She passed out hundreds of Jesus Calling books over the years.

She also wanted to help her community as a good citizen, she was active as a poll worker, member of the Newcomers Group, founding member of a Ladies Euchre Group, Stock Investment Club, a Gourmet Dinner Group, Democratic Women’s Group Child, and Conservation League Vice President.

She volunteered at the First Baptist Church of Marietta on the Board of Education and a Sunday School Teacher, both vacation and children’s Sunday School. At the First Baptist Church of Williamstown, she served as the soundboard operator for the Traditional Service and then became a partner at the Journey Church of Marietta, Ohio.

Sue, in her spare time, was a gifted gardener and landscaper, finding herself in the Marietta Times with their featured story, The Perfect Garden.

She is survived by her husband of more than 52 years Dennis Sipe, daughter Rachel (Jeff) Smith, of Colorado Springs, CO, son Matthew (Nicole) Sipe of Anaheim, CA. She leaves behind five grandchildren Julian (Tessa) Smith, Aristotle Smith, Roosevelt Smith, Sebastian Smith and Allison Sipe.

A private family graveside service will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on May 5, 2026, at the Evergreen Bible Church, 118 W. 9th St. Williamstown, WV. Visitation will be from 3PM to 5PM, with a Memorial Service beginning at 5PM.
