Thomas "Tom" David Matheny

Thomas "Tom" David Matheny, a beloved resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the age of 66. Born in Marietta, Ohio, on May 2, 1960 to James and Julia Thomas Matheny, Tom was a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many.

A proud alumnus of Marietta High School, Class of 1978, Tom furthered his education at the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 1983. He dedicated his professional life to his role as an auditor, where his meticulous nature and integrity earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

Tom was a devout member of St. Antoninus Roman Catholic Parish in Cincinnati, Ohio and the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption in Marietta, Ohio. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he was actively involved with the St. Vincent De Paul Society, where he contributed his time and resources to help those in need. Tom's gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He loved sharing his favorite quote with those around him, "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars." His legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.

Beyond his professional and religious commitments, Tom had a passion for music and the arts, and he loved traveling to explore new cultures and experiences. His adventurous spirit and appreciation for beauty in all its forms were evident to all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving siblings, Patricia Perry, Gary Matheny, and Joseph Matheny (Nancy). He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Rachelle, and numerous nieces and nephews who adored him.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, William Matheny and James Matheny Jr.

A private graveside service will be held at New St. Mary Cemetery at a later date, with the Very Rev. Edward Maxfield Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Tom's memory to St. Vincent de Paul, 506 4th Street, Marietta, OH 45750.
